Summary
- The Summer Student Workers will participate in professional development activities while working on projects created by various divisions within the City of Chattanooga Public Works Department. Our goal is to provide high school students in the Chattanooga area with impactful work experience that they can learn from, use on their resumes, and help them understand the scope of local government. Students will rotate through different departments and be assigned to a wide variety of tasks. All workers will receive the necessary training upon arrival; no previous experience is needed.
Essential Functions
- ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities.
- Assist with various projects in Citywide Services; painting graffiti, mowing, weed trimming, etc.
- General office work; scanning documents and using spreadsheets
- Assisting City mechanics in vehicle maintenance
- Assists and participates in public meetings, board and commission meetings, program work groups, and/or special events, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Any student that is enrolled in or has recently graduated from high school.
- Student must be at least 16 year of age.
- Students must be available to work in-person, 20 hours/week and be able to reliably commute to the worksite.

Knowledge and Skills
- All training will be provided upon arrival.
Physical Demands
- Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
