Job Title: Summer Camp Counselor (Community Centers)

Duration: Employment periods may range from one (1) to three (3) months
Job Descriptions:
Essential Functions
  • (Duties will vary within the area of assignment.)
  • Overseeing a wide variety of daily summer recreational events, preparing rosters, setting up recreation site, monitoring events and/or performing other related activities, checking the site for potential safety hazards, response to requests for information over the phone and in-person regarding recreation summer programs; registers participants for team sports; may be required to use, carry and answer their cell phone as determined by their job duties and the department head; performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification
  • Must be able to pass a background check to work with children. Must be able to work when needed.
  • The Counselor must be a minimum of 18 years of age and a high school graduate. He or She must be old enough to have maturity of judgment in everyday situations. The Counselor should have a lot of patience, customer service skills, and leadership skills. Must be able to obtain First Aid/CPR Certification or certifications specific to the area of assignment.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of general aquatic operating policies and procedures; life-saving techniques, modern first aid and water safety techniques; applicable laws, ordinances, policies, standards, and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the job; pool equipment and maintenance; of rules and regulations of games being officiated; how to handle and prepare food; use of cafeteria-style equipment food and supply orders; receiving and controlling inventory; USDA food guidelines.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with department staff and the public; performing basic pool facility maintenance; maintaining current knowledge of rule updates to games.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to understand and follow through with verbal and written instructions
Physical Demands
  • Position in this class typically requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Work Environment
  • Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up-to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
